The Media's effects on Christmas

Task 1 Christmas is very much to do with religion as it is a reminder of Jesus Christ and being with family, this celebration is being celebrated all over the world, but can we really call it a tradition anymore when all we do is use it as an excuse to get presents off of our family? Christmas is celebrated differently in different religions, it all changes, even the name, but it all links back to the saviour being born and rejoicing within family. Now, the media has shaped Christmas, it has influenced our beliefs, changed our perspectives. It has created an illusion of marketing and profiting. Big brands create huge advertisements to lure the audience in to buy their products at Christmas. Baubles Trees Phones Laptops Tinsel  We don't need these items, but we want them because the media tricks us into buying these things. We are made to believe that not getting someone a Christmas is rude, when really it's sensible. Prices raise around Christmas, we think we are ...

SOCIAL MEDIA AND MY INTERNET USE! LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To think about how you use the internet and what the implications of this are. Task 1: Keep a log of every website you visit over a 24hr period (don’t worry about search engines such as Google). You may wish to record it like this: Time Website Estimated length of time Device 8.00am Facebook 13mins laptop 8.19am Gmail 6mins Smartphone   Task 2: Create a wordle of the websites you visited. If you visited Twitter more than once then write into your word box as many times as you used it ( http://www.wordle.net/ ) ·                      Post it on your blogger site. I can’t create a wordle because of trouble shooting issues, I have tried to fix it but it doesn’t seem to be making a diffe...
Media Homework - Task 3 On Saturday the 17th of March I tracked my app usage for the day, in which I found myself hardly using my phone within the 24 hours. I found that I only used my phone when I was waiting between rounds on games on my Xbox and when I got bored of Xbox and decided to come off. After watching some videos on Youtube I then went downstairs and remained with my family for the rest of the day without my phone.

Gender representation Week 1 - Task 1 I think the main reasons for the lack of equality to women is because children are mainly attracted to action type genres of video games. Men are stereotypically ‘muscly’ or ‘butch’ where as women aren’t usually classed as ‘muscly’ or ‘butch’. In the popular video games the person playing would prefer to pick the most masculine man rather than a female. However, in a video game where the main protagonist is a female, such as Lara Croft, would be seen as thin with hardly any muscle, wearing short shorts or short t-shirts. However, some female characters in video games such as Super Mario for example the female characters are seen as ‘damsels in distress’ and need rescuing. Week 2 - Task 2 -Women are only viewed as the stereotypical ‘woman’. -Women need to be recognised for so much more than housewives in Hollywood movies. -Women are judged on how pretty or skinny they are, if they aren’t skinny or pretty they aren’t the stereotypical Holl...

Gender Representation Kayla

Task 1: I believe that women in video games are used to show how handsome or heroic the male is by playing the damsel in distress or simply pining over his looks and charms. Due to society and the way they picture females, our characters are never often seen as 'powerful' or able to achieve the same as what men can. With the obvious body differences we are separated into a different category and almost treated like a different species. In the past we were seen as the secondary gender and as of recently that has changed- most people are not adjusting so they turn to their old ways and hope it sells to those who believe men are stronger and better than women. Gender stereotypes have corrupted the gaming industry with their petty ideas of what a hero or a powerful character should look like. Female characters are often in costumes that shoe off a lot of skin there for promoting the sexual side of the game. Task 2: -Women need men to get recognised in the film industry. -Gen...
