SOCIAL MEDIA AND MY INTERNET USE!

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

To think about how you use the internet and what the implications of this are.

Task 1:

Keep a log of every website you visit over a 24hr period (don’t worry about search engines such as Google). You may wish to record it like this:

Time
Website
Estimated length of time
Device
8.00am
Facebook
13mins
laptop
8.19am
Gmail
6mins
Smartphone

 Task 2:

Create a wordle of the websites you visited. If you visited Twitter more than once then write into your word box as many times as you used it (http://www.wordle.net/)

·                     Post it on your blogger site.

I can’t create a wordle because of trouble shooting issues, I have tried to fix it but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference

Task 3:

Write a blog post analysing your internet use.

·                     Think about the amount of times you visit certain websites

·                     How long you spend on the sites

·                     What you use and why

You may wish to also think about the following questions:

·         What are you doing when visiting these websites? For example, are you sat having food with your family and if so, is this a good thing?

·         Do you think you waste time on the internet or do you think your use is ‘useful’?

Task 4:

You have just been given a job by an independent (small) record label to promote the label and its artists on social media (Facebook/Twitter etc). On your blog page write down 5 things you would do and why.

For example, ‘Give away a free song if you ‘like’ the record label Facebook page. This would then give us direct access to the customers who actually like our music.

Give a free song to any followers

Do a giveaway on social media

Get in contact with bigger artists to get a shout out

Get merchandise and advertise it on social media

Do follow for follow

Task 5:

Give your opinion to the following debate:

‘Social Networks don’t bring us closer together as we now talk through computers rather than to each other.’
