Gender Representation Kayla
Task 1:
I believe that women in video games are used to show how handsome or heroic the male is by playing the damsel in distress or simply pining over his looks and charms.
Due to society and the way they picture females, our characters are never often seen as 'powerful' or able to achieve the same as what men can.
With the obvious body differences we are separated into a different category and almost treated like a different species. In the past we were seen as the secondary gender and as of recently that has changed- most people are not adjusting so they turn to their old ways and hope it sells to those who believe men are stronger and better than women.
Gender stereotypes have corrupted the gaming industry with their petty ideas of what a hero or a powerful character should look like. Female characters are often in costumes that shoe off a lot of skin there for promoting the sexual side of the game.
Task 2:
-Women need men to get recognised in the film industry.
-Genders are determining what we can and can't do.
-Movies represent idealistic representations of life yet gender stereotypes are still included!
-Female sexuality is being used regularly and they get abused for it yet male sexuality seems okay!
-Women are judged in roles about how pretty they are or how skinny they are.
Task 3:
Patriarchal society is where a male is head of the household or nowadays where an adult man is in charge.
I believe we do not live in a patriarchal society as women are now given a lot more credit for their collaboration to society whereas 50 years ago men who were not in charge were seen as disgraced and unable to keep charge of their own household. If you were to see a women in the streets you would see her as a women. An ordinary normal woman but back 50 years she would've been a necessary addition to the male's family.
Task 4:
Judith Butler makes it clear that she strongly believes that genders are just characters we play as she uses anecdotes and past experiences to show her point. She includes a lot of work about how she wants to change labels and get rid of them but what she doesn't do is give a good enough reason as to why. We have been this way for so long why abandon our very nature now?
Task 5:
I believe media producers could show women in less sexualising clothing and more sophisticated clothes like men and give them a chance to show themselves not just images of the perfect body or face.
They should decrease the amount of stereotypes on the big screen and make more equal roles for men and women such as equal pay when equal effort and performance is given or offering roles which fit the person's talents not gender.
